Tooth to Tail: Research-Backed Antioxidants for Pet Oral Care
Tooth to Tail researches, formulates and markets topically applied, antioxidant-based oral products for the veterinary industry. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Tooth to Tail is committed to world-class research and providing the most advanced products for animal oral health.
Because veterinary professionals are in the best position to interpret the scientific research published on antioxidants, Tooth to Tail markets its oral care products to veterinary practices and other high-end animal care professionals. While many professionals choose to carry a moderate amount of inventory, Tooth to Tail has the ability to ship products from the warehouse directly to patients’ homes so professional offices do not need to maintain an extensive inventory. Our unique IT platform can enable any website with e-commerce to sell Tooth to Tail products so that pet owners can sign up online for direct shipment from your website.
As seen on TV, Tooth to Tail products are based on the amazing qualities of antioxidants — the large, complex natural molecules that have long been acclaimed for their health-enhancing properties. In recent years, science has shown that antioxidants play a critical role in oral health. Starting with powerful antioxidants and adding essential oils and other ingredients known for cleansing and deodorizing, Tooth to Tail formulated an easy-to-use product that is highly effective — and vet-endorsed!
Antioxidants: A Pedigree of Performance
The lickable formula of the all-natural Antioxidant Oral Gel and the added boost of the Cleansing Oral Spray are just the start of the potential for the Tooth to Tail product line. The same antioxidants that are the backbone of the products have a long, distinguished pedigree of performance.
In the early 1980s, a dermatology professor at Duke University showed that a combination of phloretin and ferulic acid neutralized free radicals generated by UV rays — the cause of skin damage and photo-aging. Two young entrepreneurs, Russell Moon and Alden Pinnell, developed the topical antioxidant technology into a highly successful line of high-end skin care products. SkinCeuticals was then sold to L’Oréal in 2005.
Antioxidants for Oral Care Products
A few years later, Moon brought topical antioxidant technology to dental research scientists from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry. Their studies, along with work from other research institutions, generated extensive data about how polyphenol antioxidants, including phloretin and ferulic acid, work in concert with the natural antioxidants in saliva that are essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
Based on this research, Moon founded another company, PerioSciences LLC, with a line of antioxidant oral care products. Launched in 2010, the products include a dental gel and four versions of toothpaste and mouth rinse.
Antioxidants for Pets: A Healthier Way to Clean
Moon and the team of dental researchers and practitioners became certain that these antioxidants would be equally effective in the oral environment of animals. They joined forces with veterinary dental specialists for research and development. The extended team has worked non-stop over the past three years to develop the most advanced oral care system for animals available on the market today.

Russell Moon, Founder and President
Founded in 2010, Tooth to Tail is Russell Moon’s fourth entrepreneurial venture. Following his undergraduate degree at SMU, he worked in the field of finance. His first entrepreneurial business was Crescent Bankers Mortgage. Within two years, Crescent opened branches in Arlington, Texas and New Orleans, employed 40 people and achieved sales of $25 million. Mr. Moon sold the company to a financial clearinghouse in 1994. That same year, he and Alden Pinnell co-founded a skin care distribution company with colleague Alden Pinnell. SkinCeuticals developed and marketed stable, high-end topical antioxidants. The company’s chief medical advisor was Mr. Pinnell’s father, Dr. Sheldon Pinnell, who at the time was the chief of Dermatology at Duke University. After years of building the skin care enterprise, they sold SkinCeuticals in 2005, in what was honored as the “Deal of Year/Southwest” award from The Deal finance and business magazine. Russell Moon and Alden Pinnell were named “Entrepreneurs of the Year/Southwest Division” by Ernst & Young in 2003. Moon revisited the topical antioxidant technology in 2008 and worked with dental researchers and clinicians to develop a product line for oral care. This third entrepreneurial business, PerioSciences LLC, launched its product line in 2010. The products presently include a dental gel, and four versions of toothpaste and mouth rinse that are popular with patients and dentists for cosmetic benefits of clean teeth and fresh breath.
